charlie rocked at skiing today! after church, we had the car packed up with stuff and headed to welch village (about 35 min north of rochester). it was a perfect sunny day. charlie was so pumped to go skiing when getting in the car after church he wanted to wear his helmet. bill's dad, tom/pappy, met us at welch to witness charlie's first runs.

charlie getting his first lift ticket (thank goodness kids are free until 5. unfortunately, they suck you in and then make you pay big for the rest of your life!).

first we took charlie out to the magic carpet to get a few mini runs in. it was a breeze so after a couple of runs bill took charlie up the chairlift. charlie loved the chairlift. he was grinning from ear to ear the whole time (too bad his skis block his smile!).

tom and i hiked up the hill to catch the action mid-run. i decided it would have been safer for me to be on skis than hiking up the hill and jogging down the hill to catch all the action. it was such a joy to watch charlie ski with bill. they had a blast together. bill said he loved the chairlift so much the first time off of it he had to give charlie a pep talk about how you go down the hill in order to ride the chairlift back up. after that he was delighted to go both ways. every time he would stop he would say "more".
charlie during our break in the chalet. he would see other kids walking around in their boots and he wanted to walk around by himself too. he was so proud of his boot walking skills (he actually has some skills).

after our snack break, we went out for more. another hour of skiing went by and we knew he was getting exhausted, but he didn't even want to leave the hill. i forgot to bring his blanket and "ba poo" (big mistake if you think he will start taking his nap on the way home) so he didn't fall asleep until we got home at 3. after waking up from his nap he only wanted to be close to bill, watch himself skiing, or talk about skiing. it was so sweet. when watching videos of himself skiing he gets the biggest smile on his face and is so proud of himself.
here are some clips from our day. it is hard to tell where they are at first. bill has charlie on a leash (lily's leash actually - the one we ordered didn't arrive yet) and for the most part it is loose, unless he starts to fall. also, i sound like such a mom behind the camera...ahhh sorry!
last run on the magic carpet with no harness or help!
charlie was sooo happy his pappy came!
ok, i should totally be sleeping right now because all 3 children are finally asleep, but instead, i'm watching how adorable and amazing little charlie is! seriously, it's ridiculous how good he is--he even puts his arms out a bit for balance! team usa??!!
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome! I love the videos! I'm pretty sure Charlie skis better than I do!
ReplyDeletesteph - the videos are awesome and charlie has such great balance! so fun that you got him out on the hill this year!!!

ReplyDeleteso great! we are taking wyatt and sadie on saturday...i'll have to try and remember the video camera when we go, although i'm not sure it will be as great as charlie's first time! can't wait to see the girls out there someday...
