2 at 2

2 – 2 year olds. wowsers! I would say I can’t believe it – but I actually can believe that we are celebrating Claire & Eleanore’s 2nd birthday because they are acting like two year olds daily. they both want to do things independently and are extra loud about voicing their preferences.
I love looking at this picture to remind me of what delicate little babies they were 2 years ago. my how far we have come.
girls in hospital
now I have two giggling little girls who love each other and think each other are hysterical. especially when it involves spit.

ellie was laughing so hard at claire (who was eating snow and spitting).

Claire is growing into such a sweet, independent “me shef”, artsy girl. She LOVES to color – especially with markers. She is talking like crazy and really stringing words together. I love the pride on her face when she communicates to you what she wants or when she points out things she knows or when she is tattling on Ellie or Charlie for doing something they shouldn’t. Claire loves to sing and even though you can’t always tell exactly what tune she is trying to imitate she will continue on and clap when she is finished. Claire usually wakes up a bit ahead of Ellie from naps or bedtime and when she does she will yell “Eyee! Eyee! Eyee!” over and over until Ellie wakes up (which can sometimes take a bit when Ellie is really tired). When asked to share her toys she will do it more often than not. She will apologize when she does something wrong – she’ll walk up to ellie or charlie and say “sorry chatchu” and she stands in timeouts great. Claire loves to be a goofer and cracks us up daily. Socially she is initially a bit more outgoing than Ellie, but gets nervous is very new situations like the doctors office. She weighed just over 23 lbs (10th percentile) and was in the 48% for height and 75% for head circumference.
here claire is focusing on what her daddy was doing. she loves to observe him.
March 2013 041
love seeing these two in mirrors because it makes it harder for me to tell who is who. claire is on the right here.
March 2013 001
now I can easily tell – claire is goofin!
March 2013 005
sweet claire looking a bit like ellie here.
March 2013 011
one afternoon charlie was still sleeping in his room and I overheard the girls saying “mine” “mine” “mine” “mine” back and forth while they were each taking different cars out of the box and lining them up like charlie does. yes they are definitely two year olds.

Eleanore is one determined, particular sweet little girl. She definitely knows what she wants – her socks have to be on a certain way, if her jeans get caught funny she tells me, she points out when things are too tight. One day she laid down on the ground and kept picking at her diaper and trying to tell me something. I checked it out and found a little tiny miniscule piece of cracker. That solved her issue and she was happy. Hmmm – I think we might have a princess and the pea situation here. Ellie is working on her communication and is often a silent dictator. She definitely can manipulate and direct Claire (sometimes Charlie) without using many words. She says things when asked, but doesn’t like to initiate as many new words herself.  I think a bit of it is from laziness. She would prefer to go with what she knows and she usually gets what she wants so I am working on remembering to ask her for the words. She can follow every instruction and likes to help me out  - if she sees a spill she will get a rag out of the drawer and clean it up. If she sees a fleck of dust or fuzz on the ground she will pick it up and show it to me and then throw it away. Maybe a bit type A? She also likes to color and doodle and build duplos. She is persistent if she is building a tower with blocks and it falls over she will just start over if it falls. She love to run back and forth with charlie and work on her down dogs with 1 leg in the air. Ellie also has a sense of humor and will crack us up. Ellie likes to gather a bunch of items and walk around with them. It is a hoot to watch. At the doctors office for their 2 year appointment, Ellie was so brave and was willing to do everything the NP said (Claire waited for Ellie do to it first before she would do it). Ellie weighed in at a bit under 23 lbs (10th percentile), 50% for height, and 75% for head circumference.
here she is focusing on lining up her cars.

Some sweet things I would like to remember from this stage:
*How sweet it is when Ellie or Claire run up to me with their blankets and just want me to “howd” them. When they want to they will just lay on my chest and I will hold them. I could sit with just one of them like this forever. When they both want to be held like this it is a bit harder to enjoy because they do get heavy and there is a lot of little pushing and shoving between them as they defend their “side” of me.
*After picking them up from the RAC or any childcare they will nuzzle their heads near my neck and give me a hug. love that!
*when I put them down for naps and bedtimes they arrange their pillows like they want them (currently they are choosing their fuzzy pillows), then they lay their heads down and stick their tiny butts in the air and I set their giraffes next to one ear and their bear (claire) and polar bear (ellie) next to the other and then lay their blanket over them and tuck them in. if you don’t do this they freak out! or if the blanket isn’t just right they will stand up and you start all over. sometimes it can get tedious, but I love seeing them settle down for the night. the funny thing is when I (or bill or nana/bubba, etc) leaves the room they go on squealing, chatting, giggling forever so I never know why they care so much about how I leave them.
*How cute their little legs look when they stand in timeout. Most of the timeouts for the day happen during the dinnertime hour. By this time of the day they have stripped down to their onesie so when they serve their time in timeout I can see their little muscular calves and thighs. such cuteness!
*how they sweep the hair from their eyes. Ellie sweeps hers to the right and claire to the left, but they both do it pretty much the same. so glad to have girls!
*how independent these two little girls are becoming. sometimes it is frustrating when they tell me their demands  -  "me walk!” or “me self” or today claire “me down walk hands” (telling me that if I let her walk by herself instead of in the stroller she would hold my hand).  If I had just one kid I would be able to let them do all those things alone, but sometimes out of safety and necessity (my sanity) I need to strap them into the stroller and get to our destination in one piece. I pray I am allowing them enough freedom to feel more independent all while keeping them all alive.
*how they are starting to have clothing and hair clip preferences/demands. every morning if they had it their way both ellie and claire would be in the closet “shopping” (ie: pulling clothes off the hangers) and then they would try on a bunch of things. that doesn’t really work in my real world so I always pick out two outfits and then whoever is out of their cribs first gets to chose which shirt she wants to wear. then they pick out which hair clip they want to wear. I’m a little anxious about what this will look like in the years to come.
*hearing the kids apologize to each other and then forgive each other and hug and make up. fighting between the kids is hard to handle sometimes, I know it is part of having siblings, but seeing them learn to apologize and extend forgiveness and hug each other is a sweet thing to witness (sometimes I see it more times in a day than I would like).
*I love how great of eaters the girls are. they both love to eat and will basically eat anything I put in front of them (which is welcomed relief from what charlie is doing right now). Ellie particularly loves green foods – broccoli and brussel sprouts are her favs.
the girls love when I let them into the bathroom to watch me get ready.

ellie was neatly stacking her books the other day.
March 2013 002
this was claire’s stack. perfectly captures their different personalities. you can see ellie’s high stack on the right.

March 2013 016

March 2013 017
ok she had enough – claire wants in. I did help  claire get a turn here.

claire.
March 2013 025
surprisingly ellie will do this the longest. claire will color longer.
March 2013 024
Oh and I should add that these two little honey badgers have been able to jump out of their cribs and pack and plays for awhile now. they can even do it with sleep sacks on. they have been really good about not jumping out when they are supposed to be sleeping. however, today in hudson after consuming too many jelly beans from Easter eggs they didn’t nap and jumped out. I sure hope this doesn’t become a new thing.
We love you Eleanore! We love you Claire! So thankful that God has blessed us with you two!

double doll birthday party!

Happy Birthday Claire! Happy Birthday Ellie!
This past weekend we headed to Hudson to celebrate E & C turning 2! The fun really started on Thursday night when I started baking the cakes. I had a few issues so I ended up baking most of the night. I was a bit frustrated, but thankfully the actual frosting and decorating of the cakes was pretty easy.
the different colors mixed up.
March 2013 012
my mom and I drove the kids up after SBS on friday. we put them down for naps after we arrived and I started on the creating of the cakes.
March 2013 015
laura had decorated the house with these sweet pictures. so thoughtful!
March 2013 016
I love that laura always has fresh flowers around.
March 2013 017
this is the progression of the cake.
 March 2013 019 March 2013 020
one done. once I started it was really quick. I think I had both cakes frosted in 1 hour. most of the multi color ones take me hours and hours!
March 2013 023
done with number 2!
March 2013 024 March 2013 026
March 2013 027
March 2013 029
when the kids woke up from nap I was a bit worried about where to store the cakes. so we put them on the piano.
March 2013 044
March 2013 045
claire and ellie seeing the cakes for the first time. they were shocked.
March 2013 047
they were post nap so a little sleepy, but I don’t think they fully understood it was edible.
March 2013 048
auntie suz had shipped the girls adorable joes jeggings and wanted to have them each open them on facetime. claire was ecstatic to be holding the phone.
March 2013 053
she then decided she liked to hold the phone more than open the present. iphones > everything
March 2013 054
claire was distraught when the phone was taken away. ellie was pretty interested in seeing her gifty.
March 2013 057 March 2013 058
notice – claire is back on the phone.
March 2013 059
ellie’s turn!
March 2013 061
ellie’s most favorite thing to do.
March 2013 062 March 2013 064
pappy and his honey badgers. claire is probably disabling pappy’s iphone for about 30 minutes by punching in a ton of numbers.
March 2013 066
after dinner paul and the girls split a cupcake. I love seeing them all together.
March 2013 069
Saturday morning – March 23rd, 2013 – Claire’s 2nd Birthday run through the streamers.

nana gave the girls her presents after breakfast.
March 2013 085
charlie was really good about handing out the presents to the girls.
March 2013 086
I was delighted! nana got the girls jackets for NZ!

March 2013 096
claire was stumped by the number of zippers.
March 2013 098
laura then gave the girls a gift each to lessen the craziness that night.
March 2013 103
charlie wanted to unwrap it so bad by himself! but he did a great job all weekend of letting the girls have the attention.
March 2013 104
claire assessing her new pink duplos.
March 2013 107
ellie was quietly opening her present.
March 2013 108
she was hopeful it really was an iphone 5. but instead turned out to be baby bottles.
March 2013 109 March 2013 110
charlie instantly started building with the pink duplos and said “hey look! it’s a sword!”. boys will be boys – even with pink duplos.
March 2013 113
bill and pappy took the kids to the giggle factory (a play area) for the morning and bill said they spent the whole time in the bathroom. where was I you ask? well – shopping with kris on grand ave and having a delightful time. it was a great way for me to celebrate the girls turning 2.
March 2013 115
claire was distraught about being taken from the bathroom.
March 2013 116 March 2013 117
March 2013 118
“me shauf!”
March 2013 119
during naps – I set up for the party.
March 2013 120
I decorated their highchairs knowing full well that the instant they saw them they would take it off.
March 2013 123
after naps the girls put on their special dresses from my aunt chris & cousin grace. ellie enjoyed hanging out with bubba.
March 2013 126 March 2013 127
then instantly started plucking the streamers down.
March 2013 128
March 2013 129 March 2013 130
in comes handsome paul.
March 2013 134
we put the girls in their highchairs to eat before the real party action started.
March 2013 138
then ellie started goofin’ claire. I will never get tired of seeing these two smile and giggle with each other.
March 2013 139
March 2013 141
Kate & Ryan and their two girls – Eva & Elise arrived. Claire and Eva are checking themselves out here.

claire and bubba.
March 2013 174
claire would have liked to spend her entire birthday party on bubba’s iphone, but I wouldn’t have it.
March 2013 175
ellie instead was greeting guests with her dress up. we put that to a stop quickly as well.
March 2013 176 March 2013 178
sadie arrived and was delighted to help with ellie.
March 2013 180 March 2013 182
this was when my awesome friend kris picked up my camera and started snapping away. love her!
March 2013 183
the birthday party was easier for charlie because wyatt and blake were there. charlie adores wyatt because he is over 4 years older than him and blake is a bit younger so they actually play great too (with a bit more arguing over toys).
March 2013 187
claire.
March 2013 189 March 2013 193
the first present opened was baby carseats.
March 2013 200
claire instantly attended to her baby. notice nana’s bracelet claire is wearing on her right wrist.
March 2013 205
busy mommies.
March 2013 208 March 2013 211
sadie is passing on her good mothering skills here. so sweet.
March 2013 219
the entire time we were hanging out Tom & Pete were managing the driveway. Tom & Laura’s driveway is quite the hazard in winter. It is steep and long and you definitely need a 4WD vehicle to get up and down. I probably didn’t warn people well enough about how bad it is so they had to tow a few cars up the driveway. The boys loved the entertainment.
March 2013 229
March 2013 230
the towing in action.
March 2013 231
meanwhile ellie was opening a clothing gifty and loving it.
March 2013 232
more boy action. playing games on the ipad. Bill was “supervising” to make sure it was appropriate, but you know he loved watching the games.
March 2013 234
how sweet to see three little blond headed boys huddled together.
March 2013 236
back to check out the driveway action. seriously it took almost the entire length of the party to manage the cars for pappy. I feel so bad!
March 2013 242
the other car issue we had is we realized my mom had accidently locked the keys in the passat so pete tried to use a slim jim and work it to unlock it, but never got it so AAA came out later that night and solved the issue in 1 second flat.
March 2013 245
cake time!
March 2013 248
March 2013 249
not sure what is going to happen.

March 2013 255

March 2013 304
March 2013 305
opening their very own doodlers. they have all been fighting (I mean – taking turns) with charlie’s for too long!
March 2013 306
charlie was so patient with not opening the girls’ gifts. he opened the last gift because they were busy with other toys.
March 2013 309
they were so happy to get their own doodlers.
March 2013 311
after the party wrapped up we bathed the girls and the sorensen fam hung out for awhile, which we all love. pappy enjoyed reading to claire, sadie and blake.
March 2013 313
while charlie enjoyed watching wyatt play a game on the ipad.
March 2013 314
I love what a great role model wyatt is for charlie.
March 2013 318
me and kris. we miss you linds!
March 2013 322
this is just to show kris and her kids (matt was out of town for work) were the last ones leaving. we loved the company!
March 2013 324
what a fun time we had celebrating 2 years with Eleanore & Claire. We are so blessed by these little girls and thank God daily for entrusting them to us. Happy Birthday Claire - we love you! Happy Birthday Eleanore – we love you!
