moving…

we are leaving our beloved house in rochester. 818 46th ave nw.

we had a few days home with almost all of our toys gone. the kids did great.

claire coloring. when I disassembled claire’s crib and gave it away she started crying “my cib, my cib!” I felt sooo bad. they had handled so many things well that I didn’t think it would be a big deal. she did get over it, but I am glad they are gone to not have to really witness everything going away.

after scanning pinterest for some moving/organization ideas. I made this. my moving binder.

photo 1

I have sections for different rooms and each area of the house has a section of numbers assigned to it. bedrooms are 300s. then I labeled each box with a number and then wrote in my binder what items are in each box. what I have learned through this packing experience is

1. I have WAYYYYYY more things than I need

2. moving things between two houses is different than packing your things to go to storage. when you look at an item you really have to think “do I want/need to have this in 1 year when I return?” makes you purge that much more.

3. I am still keeping more than I thought I would – stuff accumulates fast!

last night, I met laura with the kids so they are in hudson. bill and I are in our house for 2 more nights while I finalize the packing and our movers are coming tomorrow morning (june 1st) to wrap/pack/move our “must save” furniture to Minneapolis (Tom is graciously letting us store our stuff in the Schmitt Music warehouse). We are saving our king bed, headboard and dressers, big kitchen table, 2 endtables, 2 shelves, crib, charlie’s mattress. that’s it.

the current state of my kitchen. filthy!

DSC_4485

I really thought I was a clean person and a pretty organized/decluttered person. I have never been so confronted with my filth and junk in my life. I must start cleaning all of these deep dark places regularly.

st. croix mini train trip

almost 1 mile from Tom & Laura’s house they have a mini railroad thing. that is all I can describe it as. it is open to the public 1 sunday a month and apparently people travel from all over to use their mini model trains. it is a bit strange, but the kids loved it.
