Seattle trip, day 2

We didn’t have the smoothest night so Sunday morning was a rough one – the kids were all in one room, but since the sun comes up soooo early Charlie was up UBER early – like 4 am and decided to wake up the girls who were happy to party. Then they went back to sleep and Charlie was up again around 5 and then got pulled out of the room and the girls split up and they both fell back asleep until about 8am, but not C. He was up and ready to go. I went for a quick run around the beautiful Green Lake and it was so nice to be close to it.

After we rallied – we headed to the Fremont Street Market. It is an eclectic area with a very eclectic market. We were there early (9:30am is apparently early) so things were just getting started.

The Rocket ship.

The sun was super intense and I am desperate for a hat for my super small head and scored a $5 hat at the Fremont market!

market time.  we also picked up some wicked awesome bloody mary mix and pickled asparagus. Cannot wait to have one of those!

DSC_5358

We finished our Fremont area cruise with a stop at the dirtiest attraction yet. The Fremont Troll!

DSC_5360

my fake smile – I was disgusted by how much pigeon poop was all around us (this is under a bridge) and that the sand/dirt/pigeon poop mixture was all over my kids’ hands, feet, bottoms when they would slide down things. yuck!

DSC_5361

check out this hideous thing!

DSC_5362

Bill brought the kids up to the top.

DSC_5365

that is a real VW bug in there!

DSC_5367

it’s a seriously big thing.

DSC_5368

lucky us we got a family picture with it.

after Fremont we went to Gas Works Park on Lake Union.

DSC_5372

we just wanted to cruise around and see what it was all about.

DSC_5373

it had great views, a lot of goose poop and was awesome to see the traffic on lake union.

DSC_5375

you can see the Gas Works stuff behind Claire.

after the park we went to Westward restaurant on lake union – according to Bill (good food finder extraordinaire) is a rockin restaurant. It was!

we sat in these great chairs overlooking Lake Union sipping cocktails while waiting for our table.

great views and food.

After lunch we headed to Golden Garden Beach. It was a HOT day (especially for Seattle) and the kids were super happy to play without being directed somewhere. Bill and I have become babies with regards to the sun and wished we had an umbrella. We were totally covered up despite being totally hot. ha!

Bill stressing he was getting burned through his shirt. You could tell when we were at the beach this was an unusual event in Seattle. Nothing like being in California where people look natural on a beach. Here people looked sooo pumped that it was hot and they all rushed to the beach without a lot of practice.

DSC_5393

they found some sea creatures – mini shrimps.

DSC_5395

I love seeing their little heads together!

After Bill and I could stand the beach no longer we headed over to the Locks. Can you believe this is still all in one day?!? We honestly weren’t rushing like crazy it was just happening.

DSC_5400

there was a band playing in this gorgeous shaded park and it was perfect.

DSC_5401

DSC_5402

we went into the fish ladder where the Salmon move through down river into the ocean after hatching and up stream into the river to lay eggs and die. Sadly we didn’t hit a season where they are moving so we only saw this little confused guy, but Charlie was pumped!

Checking out the locks.

DSC_5404

after walking back and forth through the locks we stopped and listened to the music. it was awesome!

after this we headed to the Ballard neighborhood, which was probably our favorite. Sadly, we didn’t take any pics, but we chowed down some Gelato and then found an awesome sushi place that had a killer happy hour happening that we just devoured. it was great and our kids were loving the sushi.

finally we wrapped up and decided to head home – at this point it was only around 6 pm. After we hung out at home for 1.5 hours  (where the kids who were totally exhausted still were hyper and playing like crazy)  we decided to wrap up our day with a suggestion from my friend Kristen – to go to Kerry Park and eat some Molly Moons ice cream while taking in an awesome view of the city.

of course on the way there – Claire fell asleep. bout time!

DSC_5409

Ellie too.

DSC_5411

not Charlie – that kid is a determined one! he may be glazed over, but he will NOT fall asleep!

DSC_5413

Bill purchased massive amounts of Molly Moon’s ice cream.

my pathetic shot.

DSC_5420

It was a bit chilly and the girls had just been woken up. they rally for most things!

DSC_5422

but rallying doesn’t mean getting a decent picture.

  1. So beautiful! We went to several of these places when we were in Seattle when I was pregnant with Addison - including a day at Mt. Rainier that was sunny. So incredible! Looks like you guys had a blast!
