Christmas Eve 2014

Christmas Eve, Bill and I took the kids skiing at Mt. Spokane for its opening day. We have passes there this year and wanted to try it out. It was our first time skiing as a family of 5 and Charlie’s first time using the chairlift alone. There was only 2 chairs and he went alone after going twice down with Bill. I was beyond proud (and nervous!). Before we knew it, he wasn’t even waiting for us and was going up and down on his own. We tried to request that he wait for us, but that was just too hard sometimes. Thankfully, it was a really little run we were on and we were so happy to see his confidence growing.

When we arrived home, Nana & G Pops showed up an hour later and we decided to open the big gifts from Nana & G pops before we headed off to church. Here is Bill giving the instructions about what is going to happen when we go downstairs.

The kids sweetly sitting and waiting with Nana & G Pops –You can almost see the difference between 3 & 5 year olds. Charlie was a little over the top this year with wanting more and more gifts. The girls were still pretty happy to sit back and enjoy getting and watching others open gifts.

Charlie opened first and Nana was smart and preboxed his gift. About this time, Nana and Bill started mentioning how much Charlie needed some new ski socks and shirts. He was getting more and more disappointed by the second as he was removing the paper.

then he opened the box. I am telling you, this kid has been talking about this Chima lego for a LONG LONG time. It is massive and has 1300 pieces and is expensive. But Nana & G pops were delighted to get it for him.

the excitement was over the top.

I was glad to see that after being super excited he was also ready to jump over and hug the givers.

the beast. To Charlie’s credit  - he really can put it all together. Bill usually sits with him and maybe helps him dig through to find a piece, but he is the one deciphering the instructions and putting it together. Very impressive for 1300 pieces and 9-14 age group.

Then it was Ellie & Claire’s turn!

the hadn’t really talked about what they want, but I had seen this and thought it would be a great thing for them to play with.

instead of screams from Charlie there was silence from the girls as they were literally STUNNED by the house. It was adorable how they just kept quiet and were taking it all in.

and just like that the play started! they were instantly side by side playing away.

it is 2 sided and open all around so they can both be on different sides too, which I love.

We left for church a couple of hours later and enjoyed a lovely service and dessert potluck – came home and quickly went to bed to prepare for the next morning!
