Backpacking - Last day!

Monday Bill and I got up (well the kids got up too and went into Nana and G Pops tent) to pack up because Bill had gotten his vacation mixed up and still had clinic on Monday. He was able to move a ton of his patients to the end of the day, but we still had to haul it. We packed up in the dark with headlamps. My parents were taking the kids for their last week of summer vacation so just Bill and myself had to haul it out. We packed up and were hitting the trail by 7am we walked out to our car by 8am (did about 3 miles downhill FAST), we then drove the 3 hours home (we gained an hour back through) and were home by about 10:30 so Bill could soak in the tub and then shower and get to work by noon. It was insane. We were so thankful my parents were willing to take the kids for the week.

my mom sent me this after they hiked out. she was thankful for the kindles!

so thankful for this unplugged weekend together. it was great being in nature and spending time together. I am also thankful for our safety out in the backcountry.

Backpacking Heart Lake - Day 2 - Pearl and Dalton Lakes

Our morning scene...so peaceful.

morning coffee on the rock with bill. Bill also fly fished a bit and he even caught one!

the colors were insane and the reflection off the lake was incredible.

loved our water purification system!

love these two!

after breakfast and prepping for our day hike we headed off for Pearl and Dalton Lakes and the ridge line.

we reached Pearl Lake pretty quickly.

and then kept going past to where we were above Dalton Lake. We wanted to get to the ridgeline for lunch!

safe to say we found some huckleberries and food - filthy faces was the standard on this trip.

Claire with Bill on the edge of the ridge....so freaky! This is overlooking heart lake.

We spent some time hanging out at Pearl Lake on our way back down from the ridge. Charlie and G Pops took a crazy way down so we were waiting for them here.

our clan with Dalton Lake behind us

That is where Charlie and G Pops were and they decided to come down the face versus walk the ridge down the back and around (which is the proper way to go and the way we took up).

In front of the face they came down. I guess it was intense. I am thankful they got down safely.

almost back at camp! just exploring a bit more before heading back.

Bill telling a great story.

wild smore time with Claire.

The end of day 2! Was a great day and we hiked about 8 miles that day.
